Couples Intensives

Sometimes, the limitations of a traditional couples session, feels so frustrating. Just when you start to really get somewhere, time is up.

Intensives really allow us to DIVE IN, and address those issues without fear of our time being cut short.

Intensives are particularly supportive for couples who:

Feel stuck in their negative patterns, or gridlocked over the same issues.

  • Are seeking healing from a betrayal, such as an affair

  • Are discerning whether or not to separate or uncouple

  • Have gone through a major recent transition that needs support, such as becoming empty nesters, or bringing home a baby

  • Struggle to find childcare, or dedicated time off of work for weekly therapy

  • Have tried traditional couples counseling, and feel that things are just not progressing as much or as fast as they would like

I support couples struggling to heal from gridlocked issues, and to develop and deepen their emotional and physical intimacy.

Intensives provide a more rapid and in-depth approach to couples work, offering months worth of couples therapy in 2-3 days.

But… why would you want to provide intensives? Isn’t that a lot of work and time?

Yep!

But here’s the truth. That feeling that YOU get, when you’re just digging into something in therapy, and time’s up? That frustration?

I get that feeling too. Big time. I consistently feel like, if I could just have a FEW more hours to work with these folks, we could really get deeper, and do more.

I also believe that, like many neurodivergent therapists (looking at you, ADHD), one of my super strengths lies in being able to hyperfocus.

That means I REALLY get truly so energized working with folks on this deeper level.

FAQs

  • In a typical 50 minute session, it often feels like we’re just getting started when the session ends. Even if you’re attending weekly, that’s still several days in between sessions, which for some folks, can feel frustrating (including me!). With an intensive, we have a chance to do multiple sessions in one or two or even three days. You can literally get months worth of therapy, but in a shorter and more efficient block of time. It also allows us to go deeper faster, and really practice skills together in real time.

  • That really depends on you and what you’re hoping to accomplish. If we’ve never met and you’d really like to dig in, I suggest the 3-day intensive so that we can get a lot done. If you’re an existing client, a shorter intensive may be the little fire we need to go a bit deeper. Even a half day intensive can be helpful in moving things along.

  • Absolutely! Sometimes an intensive, even just a half day, is really helpful for giving our work together a little push to progress.

  • It’s true, this is a financial commitment. While my intensives are actually on the lower end of the scale, I understand it’s still a lot of money.

That being said, when the traditional couples counseling is around $200/session, and you’re going to be doing more of that over a longer period of time, an intensive can actually be really cost effective. In a 3-day intensive, for example, you’re getting over 18 hours of therapeutic work in a 3 day weekend.

In addition, I can do a payment over time plan, and I do hold sliding scale/equity slots, for folks who are in need. I understand that therapy can be expensive and, while insurance does not cover intensives, I want to make it as accessible as I can.

I do ask for a deposit to hold your scheduled spot when booked.

  • Unfortunately, no. Insurance companies do not technically cover couples work at all, and they do not consider intensives to be “medically necessary”. Trust me, there are a lot of things I’d like to change about our healthcare model!

  • No problem! I am always down to schedule a 15 minute consult call to chat about what an intensive is and if it’s right for you and your partner, and to answer any other questions you might have. You can email me through this site, or call me at 336-813-4626. I look forward to hearing from you!
